Vol 22 (2024): Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences - Special Edition
The Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences presents its 2024 Special Edition, featuring the impact studies of extension projects focused on capacity building, studies contributing to sustainable development, and the empowerment of marginalized communities in the Asia-Pacific region. This journal issue highlights several impactful studies addressing the intersection of social, economic, and technological advancements in rural and indigenous settings. Most of the studies are grounded in the Theory of Change framework and how institutional initiatives foster community empowerment. A study focused on the transformative effect of renewable energy through solar technology in remote areas. The off-grid solar-powered electrical systems have significantly improved education, economic activities, and the community's well-being. Another article focuses on the Impact of Capacity-Building Project on the Socio-economic Well-Being of Women in the Higaonon Community. The localized training program in modern food processing, business management, and technology maintenance has empowered the Higaonon women, improving their livelihoods and opening new avenues for economic growth. This journal issue also explores the broader themes of Indigenous empowerment, social cohesion, and the role of community engagement in driving sustainable development. It also presents a critical reflection on the challenges rural communities face, particularly regarding technical support, financial sustainability, and the need for continuous capacity-building efforts. Hence, this special edition of the journal presents practical applications and initiatives to improve quality of life, boost local economies, and ensure environmental sustainability.
